Nintendo has always been stingy about their work appearing in video form online in any capacity, but this has hit a new level of absurdity when they're eliminating an entire game mode because of it. Also, there should be some level of character customization in the game, but he didn't detail exactly what that would entail. Sakurai also talked about how the 3DS version of the game will have some different, portable-based levels. I really don't understand the logic here. Sakurai goes on to detail that instead of story mode cutscenes, he'll be making character intro cutscenes instead, which apparently are okay because they're not 'unlocked' through gameplay and therefore it doesn't matter if they're ripped onto the internet. Why must Sakurai ruin it for everyone out of spite? How far behind the times do you have to be to complain about people ripping your cutscenes onto the internet? If a person wants to ruin an aspect of gameplay for themselves by simply watching all the cutscenes online, let them! Who cares? The vast majority of players won't do this, and will get to experience the game as intended. I'm being ridiculous, but so is Nintendo. Or really, why even bother making games at all when people can probably watch any stage or level on YouTube if they want to? In fact, why stop there? Let's just remove endings from games entirely since you can look those up online too. If every company who had cutscenes from their game uploaded onto the internet decided to not bother with them at all, we wouldn't have any cutscenes. I agree that it's rather stupid to watch cutscenes on YouTube instead of playing the game and earning them yourself, but that's no reason for this 'take my toys and go home' philosophy that doesn't make any sense whatsoever.
